The Tasmanian Pacing Club’s Flying Mile Carnival sponsored by the Tote is running over three days in February 14, 22 and 28.
The highlight of the Carnival was the combined pacing and greyhound meeting on Monday 22 February, when a total of 18 races, 15 minutes apart were run; plus the relay challenge
The sprint race winner
The New Norfolk Football Club representing Tasmanian Pacing Club and the Brighton Football Club representing Hobart Greyhound Racing Club race off in a one lap relay of the harness track pulling a racing sulky and driver.
Eight runners from each club competed, running approximately 120 metres each. The baton change e.g. changes of “horses” pulling the cart proved interesting. The New Norfolk Football Club tipped out their driver, Wendy Kennedy at the first change. The rivalry between the two clubs is extremely fierce.
Brighton’s Jimmy Duggan won the 120 metre championship sprint where three footballers from each club competed to become the sprint champion from New Norfolk/Brighton area.
The Tote Flying Mile Carnival finishes with a twilight meeting on Sunday night.
